A youthful appearance and radiant skin are at the top of the wish list of many health-conscious people. But true anti-aging doesn't just start with creams and cosmetics - beauty begins in the cell . Our external appearance reflects the health of our cells. When cell function declines, this becomes apparent in wrinkles, loss of elasticity and a pale complexion. Visible skin aging such as the formation of wrinkles and sagging skin are ultimately symptoms of deeper processes: the protective skin barrier becomes weaker, the dermis and epidermis thinner and the tissue more vulnerable - typical changes that occur with age [1] . The good news: With targeted nutrients, cell health can be supported and thus a youthful appearance can be promoted from within .
That's where Revive comes in – a modern longevity supplement with five scientifically researched active ingredients (nicotinamide riboside chloride, calcium AKG, betaine, selenium, and quercetin). This unique formula aims to regenerate and protect cells, thus keeping skin and body younger for longer. Below, we'll explore the five ingredients in Revive, their anti-aging effects according to current science, and how they work together to ensure that beauty truly begins in the cell.
Revive contains nicotinamide riboside (NR) in the form of nicotinamide riboside chloride – a special form of vitamin B3 that is converted into NAD⁺ in the body. NAD⁺ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a coenzyme found in every cell and is essential for energy metabolism and numerous repair mechanisms. As we age, NAD⁺ levels in our cells decrease significantly, which is associated with various aging processes [2] [3] . A lack of NAD⁺ means that cells have less energy, and important enzymes for DNA repair and cell regeneration (such as sirtuins) work less efficiently.
By replenishing NAD⁺ stores, nicotinamide riboside can provide cells with new "fuel." Initial studies suggest that increasing NAD⁺ levels could slow certain signs of aging [3] . Particularly exciting is research evidence that NAD⁺ also plays a crucial role in skin aging [4] . NAD⁺-dependent enzymes repair, for example, UV-induced DNA damage in skin cells. NAD⁺ boosting could improve the skin's ability to recover from sun and environmental stress—an important factor in counteracting premature skin aging [5] . In other words: More NAD⁺ means more cellular energy and repair capacity, which can result in more vital, firmer skin.
(For example, studies show that NAD⁺ precursors such as NR can reduce inflammatory markers and improve muscle function and other indicators of aging in older adults in initial tests – suggesting systemic anti-aging effects [6] [7] .)
Calcium alpha-ketoglutarate (Ca-AKG) is another key ingredient in Revive. It is the calcium salt of alpha-ketoglutarate (AKG) – a substance that occurs naturally in the body and plays a role in the citric acid cycle . AKG is a central metabolite in cellular energy metabolism and also influences epigenetic processes and signaling pathways of aging. Unfortunately, the body's AKG levels decrease with age [8] [9] . Supplementation with Ca-AKG aims to counteract this decline. Indeed, animal studies have shown impressive benefits: In one study with mice, the administration of Ca-AKG extended lifespan and improved health in old age, which was attributed to fewer chronic inflammatory factors [10] . In the experiment, AKG reduced inflammatory cytokines and promoted a "healthier" inflammatory profile, leading overall to an extended health span [10] . In other words, AKG could slow down aging processes and reduce inflammatory reactions that also damage the skin.
The effect of AKG on skin tissue is particularly remarkable . Alpha-ketoglutarate is a necessary cofactor for collagen-forming enzymes (e.g., prolyl 4-hydroxylase) and provides building blocks for the synthesis of collagen, the protein that gives our skin strength and elasticity [11] . Research shows that AKG can directly stimulate collagen production: In the laboratory, AKG increased the formation of procollagen (a precursor to collagen) in human skin fibroblasts by about 25% [12] . At the same time, it activated enzymes (such as prolidase) that are important for collagen metabolism. In an animal experiment of the same study, α-ketoglutarate was applied to the skin of UV-irradiated mice for 12 weeks – with impressive results: UV-induced wrinkle formation was significantly reduced compared to the control group [13] . The researchers concluded that AKG can significantly reduce UV-induced skin damage by promoting collagen synthesis [13] . Other experts also agree that Ca-AKG supports a youthful skin appearance —it stimulates collagen production, keeps the skin firm and elastic, and at the same time reduces fibrotic changes that lead to hardened, "aged" tissue [14] .
For users, this means that Calcium AKG in the Revive supplement could have a dual effect – extending the lifespan of cells from within and improving skin structure from the outside by maintaining the foundation for firm skin (collagen). A true "beauty booster" at the cellular level!
Betaine (also known as trimethylglycine) is a natural active ingredient that is mainly found in beetroot. In the body, betaine acts as a methyl group donor and plays an important role in what is known as one-carbon metabolism. Put simply, betaine supports methylation – a biochemical reaction in which molecules such as DNA, proteins or neurotransmitters are regulated by the addition of methyl groups. Why is this relevant for anti-aging? With age, epigenetic regulation often becomes unbalanced, partly due to altered DNA methylation patterns. In addition, levels of the harmful amino acid homocysteine in the blood rise when methylation processes are not optimal – which is associated with vascular damage, cognitive decline and oxidative stress. Betaine can counteract this : Studies show that betaine increases the concentration of S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) – the central methyl group donor in the body – and simultaneously breaks down homocysteine [15] [16] . Through this dual effect, betaine supports youthful cellular metabolism . In other words: Less homocysteine means less oxidative stress and inflammatory damage to blood vessels and tissue, which counteracts age-related changes [15] [17] .
Betaine also acts as an osmoprotective molecule , helping cells regulate their water balance. In skincare products, betaine is valued for its moisturizing properties—it can bind water in the skin, thus contributing to plumper, more hydrated skin. Internally, betaine may also promote cell hydration and stabilize cell membranes, strengthening the skin barrier from within.
Particularly exciting are new findings that betaine could mimic some of the benefits of physical activity. Physical exercise is known to be a powerful anti-aging agent. A recent study found that long-term endurance training increases betaine levels in young adults – and this betaine helped reduce inflammation in experiments [18] [19] . When aging mice were given betaine as a supplement, some signs of aging actually improved: The animals showed better balance, better mental performance – and interestingly for our topic – betaine prevented age-related damage such as inflammation, fat deposits and tissue fibrosis in several organs [20] [21] . In the skin, betaine even thickened the epidermal basal layer , which normally thins with age [22] . A thicker epidermis means more resilient, more youthful skin. In addition, the number of so-called senescent cells (aging cells) in the animals' skin, heart, muscle and brain decreased [23] [22] . These results suggest that betaine can delay cellular aging processes and rejuvenate tissue structure—similar to exercise. For us, this means that betaine in the Revive supplement could protect cells from aging stress, inhibit inflammation, and thus help skin stay smooth and radiant for longer.
Selenium is an essential trace element that is included in Revive for a reason. Although it is only needed in tiny amounts, selenium is indispensable for the body's antioxidant defenses . It is a component of selenium-containing enzymes such as glutathione peroxidase , which neutralize aggressive free radicals . Free radicals are created, for example, by UV radiation, environmental toxins or during normal metabolism and damage cells by attacking membranes, proteins and DNA. This oxidative stress is a major driver of skin aging - it accelerates the formation of wrinkles and dark spots and can even contribute to skin cancer. Antioxidants containing selenium act as a protective shield: they intercept the free radicals before they can cause damage [24] .
An optimal selenium level therefore helps keep skin cells young and functioning. In fact, selenium is recognized in the dermatological community as an important anti-aging nutrient. Dr. Karen E. Burke , a dermatologist at the American Academy of Dermatology, emphasized the importance of selenium as early as 2002: "The mineral selenium is necessary for the antioxidant glutathione peroxidase, which protects the body – including the skin – from damage caused by UV rays. Selenium helps maintain tissue elasticity and slows down the aging and hardening of tissue caused by oxidation." [25] . In other words, selenium preserves the elasticity of the skin and prevents the premature sagging and hardening of connective tissue that can be caused by free radicals [25] . It is precisely this elasticity that makes youthful skin smooth and firm.
There is also evidence that adequate selenium intake makes the skin more resistant to UV damage . Oral administration of selenium (50–200 µg daily) has been shown in studies to protect animal skin from sunburn and reduce UV-induced cell damage; there was even a reduction in skin cancer [26] . Selenium therefore appears to provide an internal sunscreen effect that complements traditional sunscreen—a boon for skin health.
Last but not least, the skin also needs selenium for normal cell division and wound healing . A severe selenium deficiency, as occurs in some regions, leads to slowed cell regeneration, poorer healing, and an overall accelerated tissue deterioration process [27] . Conclusion: As part of Revive, selenium acts as a mini-bodyguard for our cells , preserving skin elasticity and protecting against the invisible aggressions of everyday life (UV radiation, environmental stress) that would otherwise undermine our skin's youthfulness.
The final ingredient in Revive's active ingredient formula is quercetin - a natural plant substance (flavonoid) found in apples, onions and berries, for example. Quercetin is known for its versatile health-promoting properties: It has antioxidant , anti-inflammatory and even senolytic effects . The last term is particularly exciting for anti-aging: Senolytic means that a substance can help remove aged, dysfunctional cells - often called senescent cells or colloquially "zombie cells". Such cells have exited the cell cycle (no longer divide) but do not die. They remain "stuck" in the tissue and secrete inflammatory messengers as well as enzymes that break down collagen and elastin. Senescent cells are therefore considered to be a contributing factor to the signs of aging, particularly in the skin (they promote the formation of wrinkles, inflammation and even hair loss). This is where quercetin comes in: Studies show that quercetin can target precisely such cells. In laboratory experiments and animal studies, quercetin stimulated the removal of senescent cells – a process scientists call senolysis [28] . By specifically removing these dysfunctional cells, space is made for new, fresh cells, and the tissue literally "rejuvenates" itself from within. Quercetin is thus a natural weapon against the silent inflammation and collagen degradation caused by zombie cells.
But quercetin can do even more for youthful skin. As a powerful antioxidant, it scavenges free radicals and thus protects skin cells from UV damage and environmental stress – similar to selenium, but in a plant-based way. Quercetin also modulates the immune system and slows down chronic inflammation. There is also clinical evidence directly related to skin quality: In studies, quercetin (mostly in the form of creams or gels) led to measurable improvements in skin parameters . It increased skin hydration and elasticity and reduced fine wrinkles [29] . This effect is logical, considering that quercetin plays a similar role in plants – it protects leaves from UV radiation and oxidative stress. Applied to human skin, this means: quercetin can help keep the skin barrier intact and retain its moisture, which promotes a plump, smooth complexion.
Interestingly, quercetin and nicotinamide riboside in Revive complement each other. Research suggests that quercetin inhibits an enzyme called CD38 [30] – and CD38 is a major contributor to NAD⁺ degradation in old age. Reduced CD38 activity due to quercetin could therefore help maintain valuable NAD⁺ levels (through NR) higher for longer. This creates a synergistic anti-aging effect : Revive combats aging processes at both the cellular level (NAD⁺, epigenetic regulation, senolysis) and the tissue level (collagen maintenance, elasticity, inflammation control).
A youthful appearance doesn't just happen—it starts with inner cellular health . Revive , the longevity supplement for health-conscious people between 30 and 60, starts right here: in our cells. The carefully formulated formula of nicotinamide riboside, calcium AKG, betaine, selenium, and quercetin combines five scientifically proven strategies to combat the aging process. Together, these active ingredients support cellular repair and regeneration, combat oxidative stress and inflammation, promote collagen production, and remove harmful "zombie cells."
The results of this holistic anti-aging approach are impressive: Cells strengthened from within are better able to renew and protect themselves, which translates externally into firmer, smoother skin and a fresher complexion. Revive thus doesn't target short-term cosmetic effects, but rather addresses the underlying causes of skin aging. Of course, a supplement is no substitute for a healthy lifestyle—factors such as nutrition, exercise, sleep, and sun protection remain important for youthful skin. But Revive offers an innovative way to actively support cell longevity and thus the body's youthfulness.
Beauty care is being redefined: Instead of just applying creams on the outside, we nourish youth from within . With scientifically proven ingredients and the motto "Beauty begins in the cell," Revive exemplifies the future of anti-aging prevention . Those who want to stay young in the long term and prevent signs of aging will find a companion in this supplement – for a youthful appearance that radiates from within.
